The demon's drooling hole closed in grin. It thought its job was done. But Alastor's eyes did not fade. He pointed toward The Corrupt, not moving his gaze from the summon. It screached and took off toward the slow man with the glazed eyes. It stayed out of his sight, hoping to maul him quickly and return to its own realm. Its wings beat quickly and silently, and it opened its crimson mouth and raised its bony arms in anticipation.

Alastor knew the attack would not be successful, but it was worth a shot.

The desert was littered with bodies, so mangled it was hard to tell that they were once human beings. Much beyond the capability of a normal sword slash. Ibenre, slightly disappointed that he had been unable to help, finally freed his leg from underneath the massive roc carcass and looked about.
The Corrupt stood, staring at nothing, paying attention to nothing, yes still giving the appearance of having a definite, unalterable sense of purpose.
Even if you manage to best him in combat, he will simply be reborn the next day. The words echoed in Ibenre's mind.
It was useless. They knew of a way to counter his chronomancy, but they could not do it yet. If he chose to stop time and kill them all right now, there was nothing they could do about it. They were at his mercy, and the Corrupt had no reason not to kill them all.
They were helpless, merely able to wait until their lives instantaneously ended.
Ibenre prayed.

The silence was broken by a gurgling roar, one which echoed strangely, as if the desert was rather a canyon. Phaedrus turned just in time to see the "cyclops" stand, quivering, as a new head burst from the severed stump, followed, inexplicably, by a second.

Phaedrus nearly lost his grip on the sword. A cyclops was one thing, but one with the traits of a hydra?! Heka must have been in a foul mood that day.

Alastor's attention to the demon chasing The Corrupt was severed. He wheeled around and jumped out of the way as the cyclops, now a biclops if you will, as it violently beat the ground where he had been standing. The red gleam now gone from his eyes, the boy was defenseless. He couldn't summon another so soon after being cut off from the last, and he'd have trouble doing it while evading the monster's attacks anyway. "Keep it busy!," he yelled. "But for Heka's** sake, don't slice at it!" Alastor had an idea, but it would take a lot of concentration.

Phaedrus cursed as the cyclops dodged his attack. The extra head had made the monster smarter, and it wasn't susceptible to his feints and combat maneuvers anymore. What's worse, the creature's regenerative abilities had somehow been extended to its entire body.

He ducked under a clumsy swing of the cyclops' claw and slashed at its midsection. Where his sword of fire struck, a gout of blood sprayed from the wound, but almost immediately the wound closed. The creature roared anyway, more in rage at being hit than in any mortal pain, and backhanded Phaedrus with its other massive arm.

Phaedrus flew back several yards, plowing backwards into the sand. He stood up, shaking with battle-rage. The magic flowed into him, coursed through his veins with the infinite fire of the sun, and he loosed it all, not at the cyclops itself, but at the sand below it.

he monster sunk in up to its abdomen in the molten sand, thrashing and screaming as its flesh was seared off and regrew again and again. Phaedrus sagged from the effort—he had never channeled that much energy before—and the sand cooled to solid glass. The monster howled again, this time from frustration as it realized it was trapped. Its muscles bulged as it twisted and attempted to free itself from the crystal prison. Even at this distance, Phaedrus could hear the glass cracking.

"Hurry," he called to Alastor, and fell to his knees in exhaustion.

Ibenre cursed, realizing his lack of productivity during the fight. Still, he had few ideas. He was an alchemist and a summoner in skill. Unfortunately, all demons were good for were fighting, reconnaissance and daily tasks. Frontal assault seemed the best of the three, but with the regeneration it would probably be the most harmful to the group. Alchemy was perfect in its near infinite variety of outcomes, but took up to months to prepare.
Still, there could be a possibility. Ibenre brought his hand to his heart, and shouted the name of a greater imp. He had not done any recent studying, but the name of the last demon he had summoned was still in his memory.
"Sanaluton"
His eyes flashed as the demon was pulled from his plane and into Ibenre's body, its essence fusing with his veins and spirit. The imp was furious for being summoned so soon, but Ibenre ignored the creams in his head and reached for the small knife on his belt. Before he even fully realized what he was doing, the priest took the knife and brought it hard across his left wrist. The blood poured out, pooling in the sand below him.
Yes, alchemy took months with normal materials, but often those components could be replaced. In this case, with the energy of a living being. The shouts of rage turned to screams of pain as Ibenre forced the life of the imp into the pool of blood. The demon provided ample energy in addition to the blood in the sand, and it began to twist and mold itself until, after a few seconds it settled into the shape of a solid red sword. Ibenre grasped it in his right hand and, staggering toward the cyclops, swung at its neck. He had not the strength to cut the head off, and it stuck halfway through, then reverted back to liquid state, running down the creature's neck. Ibenres blood spread through the body of the cyclops-demon, it lead out a roar.
Just one roar, Ibenre noted with thanks. The second head that the priest had slashed at sagged, lifeless, on the demon's shoulder. His own blood was enough to cancel the regneration, and it would hopefully prove more killable. But that was the job for another, as the priest, though he had used the imp's life energy instead of his own during the creation of the sword, had nevertheless collapsed from blood loss.

Alastor's eyes became a deep topaz and he smiled. "Yes." A whirlpool appeared in the sand. It caught the cyclops' attention and caused it to stop thrashing so violently. The scene was quiet for just a moment, until a gigantic sandworm leaped from the swirling hole. It landed next to the trapped beast and roared. It turned slowly and whipped its tale around, shattering the glass and sending the cyclops flying. It landed in the sand and skidded for a few feet before jumping back on its feet, enraged. But before having stood for two seconds, it fell backwards. It looked down at its legs, and screamed, seeing that the left one had been bent inwards. It could not stand. The behemoth worm turned again and raised its tale, letting it fall on the crippled monster. It landed and the sand around it flew into the air and blew away with the wind. All was silent...

Suddenly the great worm's tale was raised a few inches, the a few feet. The cyclops crawled out from underneath, stood up and beat its chest. The part-regeneration had been because of the blood, and Ibenre had put a stop to that. But its bones must have healed some other way. "Damn it!," Alastor cried as the worm let out a roar that reverberated for a few seconds before ceasing. The worm rushed at the cyclops and lowered its massive hole. It scooped up the beast and consumed it, then dug into the sand, and was gone. Alastor's eyes returned to their normal color. The cyclops was done.

A blur of shapes and sounds passed through Ibenre's mind, but that was all. Something was going on, but whatever it was, the priest was too lightheaded to clearly tell what it was. The next few months would definitely be spent working on some alchemically modified weapon though, as he seemed to be needing one more and more.
Ibenre's vision cleared just enough for him to briefly make out a large shape where the cyclops had been. Was there something even bigger where it once stood? Whatever was there, the others were silent. Ibenre gave up and allowed his eyes to close once more. He just needed to focus for a few more minutes and regain his balance, and he should be able to move again.
Easier said than done, but as he breathed in and out, he began to feel the rocking of the earth around him slow and steady, and the pain in his head subside.
